Here at Wallpeg were always looking for new, innovative ways people have used pegboard in projects around the house or garage. Recently, we came across this fun, easy project for a small cabinet perfect for storing painting supplies, tools, fishing equipment, our anything else for that matter.

What makes this projects so great is how compact the cabinet is. Some people don’t have huge garages to put up big sheets of pegboard for their stuff. By building two or three of these, you can store all your things without taking up a ton of space. You can build these to any size specifications you want, but we recommend using our 24′ by 24′ pegboards for a compact space. You could even dedicate each cabinet for certain types of tools or equipment for better organization.

According to the plans, the project will only take a day to complete and cost about 50 dollars. You’re going to need, among other basic tools, a circular saw, Miter saw and a nail gun. If you’re not a hardcore craftsman, you might not have a nail gun at the ready, but I’m sure a hammer will work just fine. We suggest using Wallpeg pegboard to give your cabinet added stability and strength that regular pegboard just can’t give you. Have fun!

We all know how WallPeg boards can simplify our lives. The organizational benefits a WallPeg board in the home or garage are absolutely tremendous. Although, the practicality of our product does not mean you can get creative with it. Today we are going to profile a few fun, easy art projects that you can use Wallpeg boards for. Try them at your home or use them as inspiration to create your own work of art!

Our first project we will look at uses pegboard to create a unique headboard for the bedroom. Depending on the size of bed you plan on putting it over, you can adjust the size of the pegboard you need. You can paint whatever image or picture you desire to make your headboard one-of-a-kind!

http://www.curbly.com/users/capreek/posts/13892-before-after-a-diy-pegboard-headboard

The next project involves using dowels and string or rubber bands to make shelving and art. By stringing together various dowels (in this case, colored pencils) placed in the pegboard, they were able to create letters, stars, and other images on the board. They were also able to fashion some shelves using the same material. The great thing about this project is that you can change the images anytime you want!

http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/easy-diy-pegboard-artkara-paslay-designs-182416

Of course, the pegboard used in these projects is the cheap stuff you find in all the craft stores. If you really want these projects to last, you know you have to use WallPeg Ready Mount pegboard!

Wallpeg boards have become synonymous with organization in the garage. Seeing all your tools lined up neat and in the right place is a thing of beauty. Unfortunately, not all household projects you use your tools for happen in the garage. Once the tools leave the wall and are thrown in the box or bag you’re using, the disorganization continues. If only there was some way to apply the organizational quality of wallpeg boards in an easily transportable manner….

Well, look no further. One of our customers alerted us to DIY project they came across on how to build a rolling wallpeg tool cart. The project was found on instructables.com, a great website for easy, DIY projects we can all do to. The design is quite genius, it’s basically an easel you might use for painting, but built with wallpeg board instead. The tool cart allows you to transport your tools in an organized manner. In this case the 24″ X 24″ plastic pegboard will work perfectly for this project.

I must warn you, the direction the project takes is a bit more complicated than most other projects on the site. The project calls for some welding which, let’s be honest, is a bit out of your average weekend-warriors wheelhouse. Although, that doesn’t mean the overall design cannot be applied to your own project. There are several different avenues you can take in this project. Many other users posted pictures of their version of the tool cart, many built with wood and screws. You could even make your cart smaller, forgoing the wheels and making it hand held for transporting only a few of your tools. Whatever route you decide, this great design can definitely help you keep your tools organized on the go.

The artist creates… and that process can get messy. As you build your modern masterpiece, layer upon layer, basking in its’ nascent glory, you don’t have time to waste putting away your supplies. You’ve got to conserve your energies for the “creative process”. But, at some point, it might be nice to find that odd piece of wire or those pliers, without having to hunt under piles of this and that. Or perhaps, you’ve got an open studio coming up, and instead of being able to enjoy curating your studio to optimal effect, you’re – gasp! – organizing your supplies!

Do you craft? Are you … crafty? No, no, not in that sense of the word, but rather in the Etsy.com sense of the word. Maybe you make your own paper, or you design buttons, or you create handmade veils. Perhaps you paint your own beads, or you fashion one-off die cuts, or maybe your thing is letterpress or bookbinding. All those wonderful handicrafts that have become the passion of the DIY, Real Made, Etsy folks in all of us, require lots of very precise tools and gizmos that don’t quite sit well next to that egg beater in your kitchen drawer. Where should they go?

As a budding artist (or if you work out of your home), you might not have a dedicated studio where you can sprawl out. Perhaps your workspace is that nook in the corner of your bedroom or next to your kitchen table. Tight spaces require space-efficient systems for housing your art/craft essentials. Our Wallpeg Store pegboards, which can be tailored to any space, you can create groupings for your art or craft tools that make them easy to find, easy to use, and keep them out of the way when you don’t need them. Check our our Pinterest page to get inspiration for all the many ways that pegboards can be used!

“Hoarding”, also referred to as being a “pack rat”, has such a nasty sound to it. A much better term might be “micro-collector” or “bric-a-brac conservationist”. When you really think about it, you are doing the world a service by ruthlessly reusing and recycling your wares! Whatever the term you prefer, it isn’t easy having a knack for collecting knick-knacks. And once the space-knick-knack threshold is reached, the question becomes, what stays and what goes? That question can cause untold hours of angst and despair, not to mention procrastination and denial, since obviously everything is important to you, or you wouldn’t have collected it in the first place. Fear not, we have a solution for you: Wallpeg Store pegboards! Our pegboards can save your treasures and while saving your free space!

Pegboards Saved My Marriage!

We can’t promise this will be true for you, but if you are finding your conquest of space is threatening to become the “final frontier” for your significant other, you just might thank your lucky stars that you discovered our pegboards. Knick-knacks like cord or twine, twisties, knitting needles, extra buttons, bobby pins, barrettes, rings, paper clips, visors, art supplies, clothes line pins, sewing supplies, earrings, neckties, pots and pans, wire, phone cords, ribbon, utensils, necklaces, rubber bands, sunglasses, shoe laces, bracelets, and all manner of little odds and ends, can be grouped and organized on our neat pegboards that can be cut to fit any space or nook and cranny in your home (in a closet, on the back of a door, in your cabinet or pantry, and so on).

Others may not understand you, but we do. It’s not that you have too much stuff, but rather that you need a better system for organizing the wonders you’ve painstakingly collected. After all, who does everyone turn to when they need that odd bit of raffia? Why you, of course! So get organized today with pegboards from Wallpeg Store, and shed that unfair label of “hoarder.”

On their main blog, they have an entire category dedicated just to garage organization. Being in the business of making and selling garage organization equipment, this section appealed to me most of all. Aside from pegboards, there is a multitude of content on this blog about everything from workbenches to custom or vintage tool-boxes, and a neat little trick to efficiently capture left over oil residue (great for anyone who likes to change their own oil and refuses to go to JiffyLube!).

They also have a complete forum with more discussion on subjects related to garages than you could ever hope to get through. Although we’ve recently been trying to highlight a lot of the uses for and applications of pegboards outside of the garage (because there are a ton), we sometimes like to pay tribute to a big percentage of our core customers, the “garage junkies” and we see The Garage Journal as a kindred spirit in this regard. Check them out if you have a chance! – http://www.garagejournal.com

It is now 2013 and it’s time to get started on some of those resolutions you made. If you are like the majority of Americans, then you are resolving to either loose weight or get more organized at home. Well we can’t help too much with the loose weight part, but we can certainly help with the getting organized!
One of the great things we are seeing more of is all the ways pegboards are used around the house. They can be used in the kitchen, closets, garage and really anywhere you can imagine. We have seen our pegboards used for craft work-spaces and jewelry organizers. The question is how can you use them in your house?

Well, we did some research and found a big number of sites and blogs on the Internet dedicated to all they ways you can use a pegboard.

We thought this was a great idea when we saw it. This woman actually framed her pegboard to make it look more like a accessory rather than a tool for organization. http://pinterest.com/pin/237213105342631878/

We thought this picture was great as well. Here this a mom took all her sons toys and hung them up on a pegboard. This is really cool because it’s the equivalent of his dads workstation in the garage, but his tools are clearly toys. http://pinterest.com/pin/237213105342631889/

Finally here is how a pegboard can be used in the kitchen. This is a great example of how you can start making your tiny kitchen space work more for you. The creator of this project even added some nice touches to the pegboard by painting it a brilliant green color that accent the walls really nicely. http://pinterest.com/pin/237213105342631863/

Christmas is wrapping up and now it’s the time of the year to… start thinking about next year? Yes, that’s right, we only have a couple days left and its on to 2013. This year was a whirlwind of fun, and there is nothing better than rounding out a year with some apocalyptic buzz.

Much to everyone’s enjoyment (and for some disappointment) the end of the world did not happen. What are you going to do will all the free time now! One thing that starts every year is everyone saying that they are going to start organizing their house and clean up better. Probably only 50 percent of people end up following through with that, but for the few that do, they are certainly happier for it. If you are part of the other half that actually wants to follow through this year then a good place to start is your garage.

The garage is where all your junk goes to retire. It’s the last place it sits before the final dump. Kind of like Florida, it gets hot and musty, there are always interesting and different smells, its infested with bugs and you never want to stay there longer than you have to.

Organizing your garage is a great place to start the big clean up though. Once you have your garage all-together and all the junk thrown out, then you can move all the junk from your house into the garage once again. That way you have something to do next year. This is the garage junk life-cycle and it is the way home ownership works. Luck for you, you’re reading this blog and know how to be prepared.

For the garage a wallpeg organizer is perfect for getting all the stuff you want to keep out of the way, so you never have to look for it or worry about throwing it away in the future. The set we find most people love to start with is the 24″ x 96″ Wallpeg peg board kit. From here you can decide if you want to move up or add on to the whole set up. For ideas on what you can hang and how, look at some of our other blogs here.

Thanks and happy holidays!

There are several different types of peg boards. We’ll discuss and compare the two most used types of pegboard wall organizers: Standard Masonite type pegboards (both 1/8 and 1/4 inch) and WallPeg Ready mount pegboards.

The Masonite Peg Board…

Available in both 1/8-inch (which also only accepts 1/8-inch hooks), and the heavier 1/4-inch style (which accepts both 1/8 and 1/4-inch hooks).

The 1/8-inch size pegboard is too light for heavier tools, and the hooks themselves aren’t strong enough for heavier tools.

If put too much weight on either of them, the board or hooks can bend and even tear out the board.

The 1/4-inch style of board and hooks is better, but still has its limitations.

Either size requires a framework to space them out from the wall, otherwise you can’t put the hooks in.

The masonite pegboard can absorb moisture and oils, and when it does, it expands and is basically ruined.

A major problem is that the peg hooks are generally poorly fitting. Every time you remove a tool from the board, the peg board hook tends to come off with it.

There are plastic peg straps available to keep the hooks on the board, but you lose the use of the holes on either side, keeping you from using them for other items
you may wish to hand in that space. Also, they are hard to remove if order to rearrange the peghooks.

The WallPeg Easy Mount Pegboard…

Is made of a tough co-polymer material and is durable enough to retain its shape, even with heavy tools attached to it.

Is ready to mount right out of the box and has molded ribs on 8-inch centers to properly space the board from the wall.

Never needs painting, it repels oils and liquids, and can easily be cleaned.

Is excellent for use around swimming pools, garden sheds, or even kitchens.

Repels water, making it the perfect choice for your mudroom where you hang snow covered coats or wet bathing suits.

Is usually much less expensive than you would pay for a masonite pegboard, furring strips, paint, etc., making them affordable for anyone.

Installs in only a few minutes and will last a lifetime…can be easily be removed from one wall, and moved from place to place.

Is made in popular sizes to be used on walls, over work benches, and yet can be modified easily for special installations.

Can be used in closets, hobby rooms, kitchens, or craft areas, and strong enough to hold your heavy tools.

Wallpeg… a better idea and a better product!!

Congratulations for reading our blog loyal customers! You are now privy to our holiday coupon code to receive 10% off your total order with us.

Go ahead and tell your friends because this code will only last until January 1, 2013. So if you know someone who is in need of a new pegboard, let him or her know where to go.

We are also proud to say we are now one of the new sponsors for Garagejournal.com. This is a really great site for anyone interested in having their garage be their workstation or if you are like these guys on this site, it’s more like your “home away from home.”

We have been hearing from a lot of our customers recently about all the different ways they are using our pegboards. We get a lot of the standard pictures and stories of guys finally organizing their garage and putting their tools in perfect order. And we love to see that. The creativity that some of these guys have in setting up their workspace is really great.

We have been also seeing some other uses that we were not expecting. Similar to some of our other blog posts, we have been seeing a lot of women using their pegboards to organize their jewelry. They find it much easier to pick and choose what they want when it is hanging up right in front of them.

We have also seen some customers turn their pegboards into a sewing workstation. This particular client used the 24″ x 96″ Wallpeg Peg Board Kit to organize all her different types of yarn, string, and everything else she had in a really organized way. All her different types of scissors where hung up and neatly organized next to hanging baskets that held her other tools.

The other really great uses we saw were pegboards in the kitchen. Some of our customers used them to hang up all their different pots and pans in a really organized fashion on the plastic pegboard strip. These were especially helpful for the people who did not have much cabinet space in their kitchen, and this allowed them to utilize more wall space.

Keep sending us in all your different uses for pegboards, we love to hear about them. And don’t forget our 10% off holiday coupon code – XMAS2013

Happy Holidays!
